Ed Miller's Ask An Expert at Internet Texas Hold'Em Redux

Ed Miller, aka "noted poker authority," participated in the ITH (Internet Texas Hold'Em) forum's "Ask An Expert" series. Here are some key pieces of advice Miller offers from the thread:

Ed Miller On When To Go All-In:

"Whenever you bet the pot, you're getting even odds on your opponent folding. That is, if he folds, you win about what you bet, so even if you never ever won when he called, if he folds 50% of the time or more, the bluff is good. But with the flush draw, you'll win 36% of the time when called, so he doesn't have to fold even close to 50% to make the all-in good. Usually your opponent will fold enough to make it worthwhile. Ed Miller On $3-$6 Cash Games:
"The formula for beating the local $3-$6 is pretty simple. Play TIGHT, and play HARD preflop with good hands and on the flop when you hit your hand. And then HANG ON TIGHT and don't fold (unless it's like two bets to you on the turn and you have just a weakish pair). ... When in doubt, raise. Get into that habit. " Read that discussion -->
Ed Miller On What He Would Change About His First Book, Small Stakes Hold'Em:
"I mostly would want to add a whole new section about small stakes online games where people are fairly tight preflop, but still play loose and weird postflop. ...it's possible that I could do the online thing as a separate project/e-book." Read the discussion -->
Ed Miller On Learning To Play No Limit Hold'Em:
"...read my starter NL material first: Getting Started in Hold'em and the 7 Easy Steps to No Limit Success. Very Happy

...beginners should start playing full-ring and somewhat short-stacked to get a feel for the rhythm of the game and to begin to develop hand-reading skills. After that...the most important skill to work on is fearlessness (of losing your stack), so I'd say medium-sized bluffs are probably the next area [to] ...work on." Read that discussion -->
Ed Miller On Two Plus Two:
"I am presently under contract for Volume 2 of Professional No Limit Hold'em. That will probably be my last book with 2+2. At the moment, beyond the PNL series, I'm not particularly enthused about writing more full-length poker books. I'm more interested in my website and perhaps writing some 50ish page e-books on specific topics like short stack play, blind defense, etc. Though I do have two more ideas for full-length books, so I suppose these might not be my last. Smile "

Take a look at some of the other experts and some of the old time regular forum posters' thoughts as well. One of the best ways to learn how to play poker well is to discuss your play with other successful poker players. Poker forums and poker blogs are a great place to do that.
